I am definitely not Rachel Ray. Or Gordon Ramsey. Or Giada De Laurentiis. If I had been I could have mastered the act of boiling the perfect hard boiled egg. You got me Kitchen Nightmares. You finally got me.

Here is the back story.

Jeremy and I needed lunch today and yesterday. We were in all day trainings so, you know, having food would be nice. We are trying to minimize our spending as we prepare for the new journey we are on. I have made egg salad sandwich soooooooo many times before that buying all the stuff for it and actually doing it is a cinch. But no, I always wanted to try to actually have the perfect boiled egg so I went on Pinterest to figure it out. Now, when I say perfect boiled egg I mean the yolk isn’t hard, the white isn’t rubbery, the peeling of the shell is a snap, and it’s just bloody perfect.

Well, I’ve come to recognize I’m definitely not quitting my day job. Kitchen Nightmares 2. Pearl 7.

So I got the recipe off Pinterest. How to make the perfect boiled egg without boiling it. I’ve heard friends do it and told myself it is totally double. I mean if I can make a decent Chantilly/Dobash cake I can boil eggs in a muffin pan. So, like the instructions said, I placed each egg in it’s own little space. Threw it in the oven and set my timer. And when my timer went off I went to take the eggs out, right? Ha! No. I was too busy stuffing my face so I stopped the timer, told myself after this bite I’ll grab it, then proceeded to watch Rizzoli and Isles instead.

Well, this is what happens when you over bake your eggs. A whole bloody dozen of them. SMH. It’s a good thing they’re only like a buck twenty five!

So much for using a timer.

I know I wouldn’t have lost this round, Kitchen Nightmares. If I just wasn’t so emotionally invested in the fact that Jane and Maura are the cutest best friends and made me miss mine. Either case, moral of the story? Don’t be forgetful. Or multitask when you are exhausted. Because, it ain’t pretty. xoxo


Baked Hard Boiled Eggs

Ingredients: 

Eggs 🙂

Directions:

  1. Preheat over at 325º F.
  2. Place up to a dozen eggs in a muffin pan.
  3. Bake in oven for 25-30 minutes.
  4. Let stand for 5 minutes.
  5. Place cooked eggs into a cold water bath. No worries if the eggshells have some brown spots on them after baking, they’ll wash off in the water
  6. Let cool completely.
  7. Peel and enjoy.
