Today officially marks two months on the job. Today also is a much needed day off after a very long week. This week I successfully planned out a two day leadership seminar. Took the hiccups along the way and ensured it was smoothed out before the leaders came face to face with it. I also took complaints of lack of space and figured out a way to open up a very crowded office. I helped figure out payment to a vendor who – rightfully – is upset because our lack of paying on time. Oh, and my regular job responsibilities? Ya somehow I was able to get that done with all the damage control that I had to deal with.

No matter how rough of a week I had I kept going back for more. Why? Because when someone is appreciated it makes all the difference in the world. I have an amazing boss who never shy’s away from letting me know that she appreciates me and my work. As hard of a week this was, as overwhelming as it was, as much as I felt I was gonna fail I knew that I had someone backing me up and willing to help in any way she could. I didn’t have that at my previous employer and it had made my quality of life so disheartening.

This job really makes me think about life and how special it is. Especially when it comes to being appreciated. People don’t necessarily want to be rescued. They don’t want to be the distressed and wanting to be saved. They want to be loved and appreciated for who they are. They want to be accepted for all of their craziness and individuality. They want to be appreciated for the person they are.

Sometimes I forget to appreciate someone for who they are and what they bring to my life. I will be the first to admit that. Sometimes I push people away and neglect to understand that I push them away because I’m hurting and forget that they are the people who have always been there for me and accepted me for who I am. I hope that I start to always show appreciation where appreciation is due. I have come to understand that what is taken for granted is often times taken away. And when that day comes, you miss most what you neglected to appreciate because you never thought you needed to. Trust me when I tell you, take the time to appreciate what is right in front of you before it is too late.

Moving forward, I hope you all know that I appreciate what part you play in my life. Whether it was to learn a lesson to get me where I am. Whether it was to show me happiness so I could find me. Whether it was to make me laugh to lighten my heart. Whether it was to hold my hand when anxiety struck. Or whether it was to love me when I became unlovable. I appreciate all that y’all have done in my life. I want to show appreciation for the goodness in your heart. I’ve traveled some difficult roads and appreciate y’all for helping me jump over the potholes when I couldn’t do it alone. The road led you to my story, and every word you played a part of I wouldn’t alter because your part of my story is what helped mold me into who I am today. Thank you.
